Isfahan
Origin:
The city of Isfahan is located in central Iran at 1500m. altitude. It was the capital of Persia until the end of the last century.
Features:
Carpets of very fine, high quality with a remarkable concentration of knots +- 6.000-10.000 knots/dm².
The pile is short, with fine wool is very strong, soft and shiny. The patterns are curvilinear.
Silk for the warp and weft.
The woolen pile can be accented with natural silk to animates the scene.
Note:
After the occupation of the city by the Afghans (1722), the manufacture of carpets was practically abandoned. It was not until 1920 that a large production system was established, so that Isfahan rugs have regained their former prestige.
