They are fine knotted on warp and weft in coton with varied decorations repeating certain motifs like; Turkish, Persian and Turkmen. Sometimes the pattern is surrounded with silk.
The most beautiful silk Kashmir are knotted entirely in the workshops of Srinagar and in the surrounding villages.
Silk carpets takes drawings as "boteh" across the field in various original compositions. Others are composed of a central medallion in the middle of a field of flowers, placed in arabesques where is run animals like antelopes and tigers. Another theme as garden design, the field is composed with compartments of equal shapes, but with different designs and background colors arranged in vertical and horizontal rows (often a checkerboard squares), decorated with plant motifs such as, cypress, willow, flowers boteh, mihrab, birds.
The flower vase in various varieties such as tulips, roses, lotus, carnations, iris, ... is also part of a classic theme.
These rugs are finely knotted on looms with the Persian knot (farsbaf), with a concentration of 4000 to 10,000 knots/dm².
The soft colors, harmonious and balanced compositions is the result of thousands of strands of wool or silk. These sophisticated and attaching works agree in both ancient and contemporary décor.
